Education, Implementation, and Advocacy for Health Literacy in Rehabiliation Practice
will have barriers to their treatments based on health literacy"
Research has found that only 12% of the American public has proficient health literacy skills, estimating that 90 million Americans do not have the health literacy skills to successfully navigate the US health care system. Consequences of poor health literacy are damaging for individuals, communities and societies. The significant prevalence of this problem makes it likely that many people involved with rehabilitation services will have barriers to their treatments based on health literacy. This webinar will share current research about health literacy and how it impacts the health care encounter. Through interactive learning activities, participants will become equipped with assessment and intervention strategies that align with best practices. You will be prepared with knowledge, skills, and resources to be able to assess your work environment and begin health literacy interventions immediately after the workshop.
1.Participants will understand how health literacy is connected to health disparities.
